IELTS Speaking Test

IELTS test includes Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing Tests. Out of all these I think the Reading one is slightly tougher than the others. The questions based on the reading passage require you to re-read the passage a number of times. You should have a good reading speed with excdellent comprehension to complete the test within the allotted time period.

The speaking test is not as difficult as the reading test. There are three parts of the test. the first part is "warming up" questions. You will be asked questions about yourself, your background, etc. You should learn to answer these questions in a few sentences. You should not just give one word answers to these questions. You should be able to naturally talk about yourself, as you would talk to a friend.

In the second part you are asked to talk on a given topic for two minutes. You will be penalized if you finish before two minutes. This part checks your fluency as well as organization of ideas. You will be given a paper to jot down some ideas before you begin to speak. So there is nothing to worry. Be relaxed and just talk as you would talk to a neighbour or relative.

In the third part, the examiner may ask you a few questions based on what you said about the topic in the second part. Be as natural as possible and do not hesitate to initiate a conversation yourself with the examiner.
