Test of English as a Foreign Language

You can take the TOEFL examination if :

• your native language is not English and
• you are applying to study at a university in the US
• you are applying to be a teaching assistant as part of  your graduate (post-graduate) programme at a US university
• you are applying for a license to work as a doctor or nurse in the US
• you are applying for university entrance or professional licensure in New Zealand
• you are applying to  government agencies, or licensing/certification agencies or for scholarship programs, where TOEFL scores are used to evaluate English proficiency

Where can I take the test?

The computer based testing is available on a continuous basis in most  parts of the world. The Paper based testing is available on specific dates in certain  locations. You need to find out the dates in the places where you want to take the test.

The New Generation Internet based test (iBT) is to be introduced in the  United States on September 24, 2005. On October 22, the TOEFL iBT test  will begin in Canada, France, Germany and Italy. The test will be introduced in the rest of the world in 2006.

Procedure

Download an information and registration form from the TOEFL website.

Register for the test online or offline.

You can register online with a valid credit card.

Obtain the free study guide TOEFL provides for those who register.

Obtain other books and products to practice.
