Senior people need to keep fit and age healthily. Old people often feel let down due to the progress of years and their health condition deteriorating gradually. But they should not lose heart. Adopting some health and fitness measures and adhering to a diet and exercise routine will get rid of all the depression and sorrow associated with the process of aging and will allow them to age gracefully and healthily while enjoying life. It must be remembered that youth is transient and the arrival of old age is but natural. Still, we can get over the miseries of old age by staying fit in body and mind. By promoting health and fitness of the physical body and the mind within we can find that never before had old age seemed so beautiful and enjoyable. Physical fitness for senior people Senior persons need to take up a regular exercise program and maintain a healthy dietary habit. The diet set up should incorporate adequate portions of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and vitamin and mineral supplement intake upon consultation with a qualified physician is suggested. The old persons also need to live a stress free life devoid of tension and anxiety of all sorts. Morning walks and participation in light recreational activities and games are recommended for maintenance of their fitness. They may even practice Yoga or some other traditional relaxation and health giving activity. Working out in the gym is also suggested though it is advised to refrain from heavy and strenuous exercises. Fitness and health upkeep is a prime concern of senior persons. Hence, they should regularly visit physicians for carrying out health checkups and undertake suggested teats. In case some major disease is suspected a thorough diagnosis needs to be done and proper treatment measures are to be resorted to. Mental fitness for senior people Mental fitness for senior people is of great importance too. The old persons need to stay young at mind. Often the thought of aging makes one feel old. Senior people must never let depression and anxiety take over their senses. They need to engage in hobbies, recreational activities, social services, intellectual and other pursuits etc. to keep their minds fresh, clear and youthful. Exercising of the mind using Yogic techniques help increase concentration levels and enhance mental capacities. They effectively help resist the dementia associated with old age and counter the dreaded Alzheimer's disease.
