Acne and Allopathic Medicines
Allopathic meicines should be taken in consultation with a doctor.
Benzoyl peroxide (gel or cream) or salicyclic acid of 5 percent strength can clear acne but it will take several weeks to work.
Increasing the percentage of Benzoyl Peroxide in it self may not help and it may increase te dryness and itching. It is better to use 5% strength for a longer period. In any case acne medication has to be continued to prevent fresh pimples even after the existing ones are cleared.
Tretinonin, a derivative of Vitamin A, alters the growth of oil glands and can dry up current pimples and prevent others from forming but it also has an uncomfortable, burning or drying sensation.
Isotretinoin (Accutane) can, in some cases, virtually eliminate the problem but it may result in itching, headaches, muscle pain and hair loss.
It should not be taken by pregnant women as it may cause birth defects.
