Eye and the Camera
Our eyes are expensive cameras we are born with.
Let’s just compare the camera and the eye and find out the problems and possible solutions.
Cornea of the eye = lens of the camera both focus light to create an image.
The camera creates the image on the film. The eye creates the image on the retina.
If the lens of the camera is not adjusted properly the image is out of focus. If the shape of the cornea and the eye are not perfect the image is blurred.

The bending and focusing of light is also known as refraction.
The imperfections in the focusing power of the eye are called refractive errors.
There are three types of refractive errors: 1. myopia nearsightedness difficulty seeing distant objects 2. hyperopia farsightedness difficulty seeing near objects 3. astigmatism distorted vision notice blurred or ghost images close up or far away.
If the cornea is not perfectly round it causes the condition called astigmatism. Combinations of myopia and astigmatism or hyperopia and astigmatism are common.
Glasses or contact lenses are designed to compensate for the eye's imperfections.
Surgical procedures to improve the focusing power of the eye are called refractive surgery.
