I think most of us have a goal of being healthy and living a long life but things like genetics create problems we cannot always control, however, many things about our life and being healthy we can control.

Here are 8 healthy living tips

1. Get an annual physical. There is no excuse for not seeing your doctor at least once every year for a physical and if you are making major lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking or starting an exercise program you should go in and get a quick check up.

2. Watch what you eat. Sounds easy enough, but obviously it isn't. Overeating is a problem many of us face and it is a big problem when it comes to living a healthy life. You need to make good choices most of the time and indulge yourself only once in awhile.

3. Eat balanced meals. To much fat everyday, or to much sugar is bad. If you diet still try and maintain a healthy balance of all the food groups.

4. Cut down on the overtime at work. We all have bills to pay, but as the saying goes, "too much work and not enough play makes Jack a dull boy." Healthy living means getting home at a decent hour from the office.

5. Watch how much sleep you get. Most of us are short changing our body when it comes to sleep and quality sleep. If you are the type of person that brags about how little sleep you can get by on each day try bragging about how you get 8 good hours of sleep each night. Your body will thank you and so will your health in the long run.

6. Quit smoking... There is not one good thing that comes from smoking and if you fool yourself into thinking it relaxes you, then take a walk twice a day or start yoga. Relax another way besides lighting up.

7. Take a walk or join a fitness club. Make exercise part of your life and you will become more healthy, plain and simple. Another way is to find something you like to do and do it. Bicycling, hiking, walking, swimming, gymnastics, playing tennis, etc. Anything that you enjoy will be easier to do on a consistent basis.

8. Make your life as stress free as possible. Eliminate whatever is stressing you out and living healthy becomes a reality.
