Would you like to know a few tips for healthy restaurant eating? This does not
necessarily mean eating at a health restaurant. Although if you have one you like to eat at by all means go for it. But what about the
times when you are in a restaurant and are not sure what to eat? Here are a few things you can do to eat out and be healthy about it
without sacrificing a good time.
First of all many restaurants now have a heart healthy menu or at least heart healthy choices that are noted on the menu. Look at
those and see if anything appeals to you. You may be able to order your whole meal quickly and easily and keep it healthier than on the
regular menu. Here are a few more tips.
1. Skip the mixed drinks or beer. Let's face it there are a lot of calories and very little health in alcohol. Because you will
probably be getting more calories than you want tonight skip the alcohol or limit it to one drink.
2. Do you really need to order and appetizer? No you do not, so don't.
3. Order a salad. Salads are a healthy way to avoid the appetizer and your heart will thank you later. Order it with a vinegar
dressing and no croutons. If it comes with bread simply request wheat bread or rolls.
4. For the main course think grilled or boiled and not fried. Order your sauce on the side so you can control how much you put on
and if you are extra hungry load up on more fruits and vegetables.
5. Look for a low fat dessert. Low carb cheesecake is now available and most
restaurants do their best to provide you with something low fat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Contrary to what your mother taught you, you do not have to clean up your plate. Many restaurants offer ridiculous portions that
only an heavyweight could finish, so don't even try. You do not have to be embarrassed to ask for a “to go” box. For the price of one meal
you can create another one for tomorrow and save on a little cooking as well.
Healthy restaurant eating is getting easier all of the time. Go out with the goal of having a good time and a healthy meal and if
you are conscious about what you are ordering you will find yourself making good choices and healthy choices your body will thank
you.
